How Much Does Pest Control Cost in Shelby, NC?

H&H Pest Control & Waterproofing — Serving NC Since 1974

One of the most common questions we get from new customers is: "How much does pest control cost?" It's a fair question, and at H&H we believe in giving homeowners clear, honest answers rather than forcing them to call just to get a ballpark number.

The honest answer is that pricing varies based on several factors — the pest, the size of your property, the severity of the infestation, and the type of service you choose. But we can give you useful ranges and context so you know what to expect.

What Affects Pest Control Pricing

Several variables determine the cost of professional pest control:

The pest species. Some pests, like ants, require surface treatments and bait applications. Others, like bed bugs, require intensive heat or chemical treatments that take more time and materials. Termite treatment is in a category of its own due to the labor involved.

The severity of the infestation. A light ant trail into a kitchen costs less to treat than an established carpenter ant colony that has excavated nesting galleries inside wall voids. Early detection almost always reduces cost.

Property size. Larger homes with more square footage and more exterior perimeter require more material and treatment time.

Treatment frequency. A one-time treatment typically costs more per visit than a recurring service plan, because recurring service allows for lower-cost maintenance applications between initial treatments.

Your location within our service area. For customers in Shelby and close-in communities, our response time and travel costs are minimal. Communities further out may have slightly different pricing.

General Pest Control Pricing

Recurring Service Plans

Recurring service plans provide the most cost-effective protection against ants, roaches, spiders, and general household pests. At H&H, plans are available monthly, bi-monthly (every other month), and quarterly.

Monthly service: Typically in the range of $40–$65/month for an average-sized home.

Bi-monthly service: Typically $60–$100 per visit for an average home.

Quarterly service: Typically $80–$130 per visit.

These plans include interior and exterior treatment, monitoring, and a service guarantee: if pests return between scheduled visits, we return and re-treat at no additional charge.

One-Time Treatments

One-time treatments for specific problems — a wasp nest, a spider problem in the garage, an ant trail — are priced per service call. Expect to pay in the range of $100–$250 depending on the pest and scope of the treatment.

Specialty Treatments

Some pests require more intensive treatment protocols:

Bed bug treatment: Bed bug elimination requires thorough heat treatment or chemical treatment of all infested rooms and is significantly more intensive than standard pest control. Expect to pay $300–$700+ for a single-room treatment, with larger infestations requiring more.

Mosquito control: Barrier spray programs for mosquito control are typically priced seasonally or per application. A standard residential barrier spray for an average-sized yard runs $75–$150 per application, with most customers scheduling monthly applications May through October.

Our ant control and other individual service pages provide more detail on what each treatment involves.

Termite Treatment Pricing

Termite treatment is distinct from general pest control and is typically the largest single pest-related expenditure a homeowner will face. There are two primary treatment approaches:

Liquid Barrier Treatment

A liquid termiticide is applied to the soil around and beneath the foundation, creating a chemical barrier that kills termites that cross it. This involves drilling through concrete (patios, garage floors, sidewalks adjacent to the foundation), trenching around the perimeter, and injecting termiticide into the soil.

Pricing for liquid termite treatment depends heavily on the linear footage of your foundation perimeter. For a typical Cleveland County home, expect costs in the $800–$2,000+ range for initial treatment.

Sentricon Bait Systems

Sentricon is a bait-based system that uses in-ground bait stations to attract and eliminate entire termite colonies. Rather than creating a barrier, Sentricon actively deploys bait that worker termites carry back to the colony, eliminating it at the source.

H&H is a licensed Sentricon provider. Annual Sentricon monitoring and bait station maintenance is typically $250–$500/year depending on property size, after initial installation.

Annual Termite Inspections

Annual termite inspections are free at H&H. We strongly recommend annual inspections for all homes in Cleveland County. The cost of catching an infestation one year early is almost always a fraction of the cost of a missed infestation discovered after significant damage.

Waterproofing Pricing

Crawl space waterproofing is an investment with significant long-term payoff, given what unmanaged crawl space moisture does to a home's structure and air quality.

Vapor barrier installation: A quality moisture barrier for a typical crawl space typically costs $1,000–$3,500 depending on size and site conditions.

Crawl space encapsulation: Full encapsulation — heavy-duty liner, sealed vents, and dehumidifier — is the most comprehensive solution and typically costs $4,000–$12,000 for a complete system. This is not a DIY project; improper installation of an encapsulation system can trap moisture and accelerate damage.

French drain installation: Drainage systems for actively wet crawl spaces typically start around $2,000–$5,000 depending on the extent of the drainage system required.

The Real Cost of Waiting

One thing we've learned over 50 years in this business: the cost of waiting almost always exceeds the cost of acting. A small termite infestation discovered during an annual inspection might require a $1,500 treatment. The same infestation, discovered two years later after structural damage has occurred, might require $15,000 in combined treatment and repair costs.

Similarly, a crawl space moisture problem that can be corrected with a $2,000 vapor barrier today could evolve into $8,000 in floor joist replacement and mold remediation in three years.
