Our Termite Inspection Process

1

Full Structural Inspection

Our certified inspector examines all accessible wood-to-ground contact areas, foundation walls, basement/crawl space framing, exterior wood features, window and door frames, and attic framing. We probe suspect wood with a moisture meter and pick tool.

2

Moisture Assessment

Termites require moisture to survive. We identify and document moisture-related conditions that promote termite activity — foundation leaks, plumbing issues, poor drainage, inadequate vapor barriers — that would need correction alongside any treatment.

3

Comprehensive Report

We provide a detailed written report documenting all findings: active infestation indicators, previous termite damage, conducive conditions, and recommended treatments. For real estate transactions, we issue a standard WDI (Wood Destroying Insect) report accepted by lenders and title companies.

4

Treatment Recommendation

If active termites are found, we immediately provide treatment options with pricing. If no active infestation is found, we recommend a prevention program to protect the structure going forward.

Why Annual Termite Inspections Are Essential

Eastern subterranean termites — the species common in western NC — live underground and consume wood 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A mature colony of 500,000+ individuals can consume a linear foot of 2x4 lumber in 6 months. Infestations routinely go undetected for years, often only discovered during renovations or real estate transactions — after extensive damage has occurred.

Termite damage is excluded from virtually all standard homeowner's insurance policies. The average termite repair cost in North Carolina is $8,000–$15,000, and severe structural damage can exceed $50,000. Annual professional inspections catch infestations early, when treatment is simple and damage is minimal.

H&H's inspectors are licensed by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and trained to find the subtle early signs that untrained eyes miss. We've been protecting western NC structures from termite damage since 1974 and have the local knowledge to know where termites concentrate in each county we serve.
