Sump Pump Installation & Maintenance in Cleveland County, NC

When gravity alone isn't enough to remove water from below grade, a sump pump is the solution. H&H installs, repairs, and maintains sump systems that keep crawl spaces and basements dry year-round.

Signs You Need a Sump Pump

Water consistently accumulating in the crawl space or basement after heavy rain

An existing sump pump that is running constantly, making unusual noises, or not activating

High humidity and musty odor in the crawl space even with a vapor barrier installed

Efflorescence (white mineral deposits) on basement or crawl space walls — indicating water infiltration

Seasonal flooding in a low-lying area of the property that drains toward the structure

Water table that rises to near-foundation level during wet seasons

Previous water damage — stained walls, rusted metal, deteriorated wood — in below-grade areas

A crawl space encapsulation system without an active water removal component

Our Sump Pump Installation Process

1

Water Source Assessment

We determine whether the water intrusion is surface water (drainage issue), groundwater (high water table), or a combination. This determines whether a sump pump alone is sufficient or whether drainage system improvements are needed first.

2

Sump Pit Excavation

We excavate a pit of appropriate size and depth, lined with a proper sump liner to prevent soil collapse. Pit size and placement are critical — the pit must be positioned at the lowest point where water naturally collects.

3

Pump Installation

We install an appropriately sized submersible sump pump with a float-activated switch. For critical applications or flood-prone areas, we install a backup pump (battery or water-powered) that activates if the primary pump fails or loses power during a storm.

4

Discharge Plumbing

We run discharge piping from the pump to an appropriate exterior outlet point, at least 10 feet from the foundation, sloped to prevent backflow. We cap the discharge outlet with a critter guard to prevent pest entry.

Why Proper Sump Pump Installation Is Critical

A sump pump that fails during a heavy rain event can allow significant water intrusion in a matter of hours. Improper installation — undersized pumps, improper pit depth, or inadequate discharge — results in a system that either runs constantly (burning out the motor) or fails to keep up during peak inflow. Professional sizing and installation ensures the system performs when you need it most.

Western NC receives 50+ inches of rainfall annually, with intense storm events common in spring and summer. Many homes in the Foothills and Piedmont have seasonal high water tables that require active pumping to keep below-grade areas dry. A properly installed sump system is not optional for these properties — it's essential.

H&H's waterproofing division has been installing drainage systems in western NC since 1974. We understand the local topography and soil conditions, and we size and locate sump systems based on actual water volume and inflow rates — not a generic formula.
